Meet Mend on the Move
Mend on the Move is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social enterprise, that employs survivors of abuse in Metro Detroit to create jewelry which provides them with an income while in recovery.
Their jewelry is created from salvaged auto parts and car seat leather. Jewelry making is the tool that they use to do their real work, which is helping the makers feel valued, gain confidence, independence and healing in a caring, safe work space.
Mend on the Move is contributing to an empowering movement that is helping abused women take back their lives.
Founder, Joanne Ewald, founded Mend in 2015
”MEND ON THE MOVE WAS CREATED FROM A PLACE OF HEALING. IT WAS THE CULMINATION OF ALL MY PAST PAIN, SUFFERING, EXPERIENCES, GIFTS AND TALENTS COMING TOGETHER FOR A VERY CLEAR AND INTENTIONAL PURPOSE. TO WALK ALONGSIDE AND ENCOURAGE OTHER WOMEN WHO FELT AS I ONCE HAD.”

Mend on the Move uses their jewelry sales as a vehicle to do their real work; helping their makers feel valued, gain confidence, find independence and grow toward healing in a caring and safe work space.
An additional part of Mend's mission is contributing toward decreasng the more than 3 million tons of non-recyclable auto parts landfilled each year in the US.
The materials they use have been donated by many generous companies in the Detroit auto industry. Each purchase helps provide an income for Mend employees and allows them to keep doing what they love to do - helping women thrive.

Products that you will love to own and gift, AND will feel good about buying.
Everything from jewelry and scarves; items for entertaining and for your kitchen and bath; handbags, teacher gifts, men's gifts, and stationery.
We strive to buy directly from the artisan or from a supplier who abides by the Fair Trade Agreement. This gives them and families in their community access to fair wages, education and health care in addition to other social and economic opportunities.
